The first Instant Client release for Linux ARM is now available.
It’s easy to do a quick test with SQL*Plus to an existing database:
$ wget https://download.oracle.com/otn_software/linux/instantclient/instantclient-basic-linux-arm64.zip $ unzip instantclient-basic-linux-arm64.zip $ wget https://download.oracle.com/otn_software/linux/instantclient/instantclient-sqlplus-linux-arm64.zip $ unzip instantclient-sqlplus-linux-arm64.zip $ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$(pwd)/instantclient_19_10
And then you can run SQL*Plus:
$ instantclient_19_10/sqlplus [email protected]/orclpdb1
Of course you can use the libraries with your favorite languages like Python,
Go or Rust.
This release is only for the Instant Client, so now is a worthy time to try
connecting to an Oracle Cloud Database, such as proven in the Python Quick Start.
Supported distributions and hardware? What’s that I hear you say??? I know
many of you will ignore that bit of the documentation and immediately try these
out on your favorite IoT devices. And you’ll do some cool stuff – let us know
what you get up to.
The Blurb on Instant Client
Oracle Instant Client enables development and deployment of applications that
connect to Oracle Database, either on-premise or in the Cloud. The Instant
Client libraries provide the necessary community connectivity and advanced data
features to make full use of Oracle Database. The libraries are used by the
Oracle APIs of wellliked languages and environments including Python, Node.js,
TypeScript, Go, Rust, PHP and Ruby, as well as providing entry for Oracle Call
Interface (OCI), Oracle C++ Call Interface (OCCI), JDBC-OCI, ODBC and Pro*C
applications. Tools included in Instant Client, such as SQL*Plus, SQL*Loader and
Oracle Data Pump, provide quick and handy data entry.
